Well, I think what people might be asking is "who?" in reference to them. After all, as you correctly pointed out, a name is not going to help much, but information with reference to what the person already knows is the key to this question's answer.
It's like relational object orientation of information regarding groups and individuals with cascading sub-level filter of relavent information. You know?
